Providers of health care or treatment at events are reminded to check whether they need to register with CQC as the registration window is now open.
Following changes to the law introduced by the government, treating a disease, disorder or injury at an event is being brought into the scope of CQC regulation. This means that if any organisation or individual provides or intends to provide health care or treatment delivered at an event, and it meets the criteria for the regulated activity of Treatment of disease, disorder or injury (TDDI), the provider must register with CQC.
Providers have been able to submit applications to register since 7 September 2026.
The government has introduced the new requirements in stages to give providers time to prepare and to minimise disruption to the events sector.
Between 7 September 2026 and 1 March 2027, providers can apply to register or update their registration details where needed. This will be followed by a period for CQC to process applications before the legislation comes fully into effect on 6 December 2027.
Providers can continue to apply to register or update their registration details after 1 March 2027, but may not receive an outcome by 6 December 2027.
What providers need to do
- If your organisation provides health care or treatment at events, you should review the new guidance as soon as possible to check whether the services you provide fall within the scope of the TDDI regulated activity.
- If you need to register with CQC, we advise you to submit your application during the registration period.
- We encourage you not to wait until the end of the registration period to check whether registration is needed.
- If you are already registered with CQC to deliver TDDI you should review your Statement of Purpose and update it if necessary to reflect any event-based services you provide.
CQC's regulatory monitoring, assessment, inspection and enforcement activity under the new requirements will begin on 6 December 2027.
Support and guidance
We recently published guidance to help providers understand:
