In order to guarantee a high standard of safety and quality in gamete donations in Belgium and to strengthen the supervision of fertility centres in the long term, the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP) has drawn up a plan setting out structural improvement measures. This plan was presented to Parliament in April 2026. It follows the crisis surrounding a donor with a genetic abnormality and the finding that the rule limiting the number of families per donor to a maximum of six was not always adhered to.

As announced, the FAMHP is today publishing a progress update on the recovery plan, so that all stakeholders can monitor the implementation of the recommended measures in a transparent manner. This progress report will be updated regularly on the FAMHP website.
