Artificial intelligence (AI) has the ability to transform healthcare for the benefit of both healthcare providers and patients. Implementing a framework that facilitates the (re-)use of data is pivotal to its advancement. However, the development and deployment of AI face various challenges. This study outlines some of the AI technologies applied in the healthcare sector, examines essential EU legal frameworks facilitating the (re-)use of data for the development of medical AI, and discusses some of the key concerns arising in this context.
